If you have had an accident or trauma (usually by pulling out your earrings or of some other nature), your earlobe can become completely or partially split. If you are used to wearing very heavy earrings, over time, it can lead to a widening of the hole in your earlobe (partial splitting). Sometimes due to trauma or local inflammation, part of your earring can become embedded in your earlobe.
Either of these causes aesthetic damage and makes it impossible to wear earrings! Even if it seems like a minor problem, there is no point in waiting because it will not go away by itself, and I, Dr. Bortolini, a plastic surgery specialist, can solve the problem so you can wear your favorite earrings! Call and schedule a consultation for a quick fix
Acute trauma is best treated immediately, like any injury. The wound is disinfected, bleeding is stopped and the earlobe can be restored with the earring hole preserved or cancelled.
If more time has passed since the accident and the ear wound has healed on its own or if it is a partial split by widening the hole, the ear lobe can be reshaped, also with keeping or cancelling the earring hole.
Most of the time the results are satisfactory both aesthetically and functionally!
The sutures are removed 10 days after the earlobe reconstruction surgery and it is recommended to wear clip-on earrings and a new hole can be made after 2-3 months.
