If you also suffer from excess fat deposits in certain areas of your body then liposuction is the procedure for you.
Liposuction is not a method of treating obesity, but is a body shaping and contouring surgery to remove small-to-moderate deposits at the following levels:
You are a good candidate for liposuction if you are young and have a good skin elasticity, so that after the removal of fat deposits your skin can “mould/sew” to the new body contour. Otherwise, it is also indicated to remove excess skin, which is another larger operation called abdominoplasty.
You should know that although it often improves the appearance of areas affected by cellulite, liposuction is not a method of treatment in itself.
With the integrated beauty concept, BE PERFECT by Dr. Bortolini, liposuction can be combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures: breast augmentation, abdominoplasty or other injectable procedures!
The aspirated fat can then be injected in various places to give volume to certain deficient areas. Most commonly it can be injected in the buttocks (procedure known as Brazilian butt lift) or in the face for cheek augmentation, fading dark circles, etc. For more details go to the LIPOFILING or BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT section.
It is important to know that liposuction is not in itself a treatment for obesity, cellulite or a substitute for a healthy and balanced diet, but in combination with a healthy lifestyle it can give you the results you are looking for.
NEW! To give you an idea of what you will look like after this surgery we will make a digital simulation of the operation.
During the consultation we will discuss everything that the procedure entails, its risks and limitations and I will answer all your questions. We will take measurements and together we will choose the best option for you.
We will assess your health (possible diseases, allergies, usual medications). Afterwards an abdominal ultrasound and blood tests are recommended.
Before the operation it is recommended to avoid the use of anti-inflammatory drugs or aspirin for at least 14 days prior to the operation (they promote bleeding).
Contraceptives should be stopped 4-6 weeks before surgery because they increase the risk of thromboembolic complications (blood clots).
Excessive exposure to sun or sunlight should be avoided before surgery
It is also recommended to stop smoking at least 1 month before or at least to reduce considerably the number of cigarettes smoked per day (it hinders the healing process and complications may occur).
The operation is not performed during the menstrual cycle.
On the day of the operation you must not consume food and liquids for at least 6 hours before the operation.
It is recommended to avoid gel nails or dark colours because they interfere with anaesthetic machines*, body creams in the morning.
Depending on the areas treated and their size, liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia (combined or not with sedation), spinal anesthesia, or general anesthesia.
Incisions (scars) – are usually small (3mm) and hidden from view. Initially, a fluid (containing anaesthetic and a vasoconstrictor) is infiltrated into the areas to reduce trauma and bleeding. Then a thin tube (cannula) is inserted through these incisions to dislodge excess fatty tissue using a duct-vein motion. This excess is then removed by suction.
The duration of the procedure varies depending on the number and volume of areas where liposuction is performed and is between 1 – 3 hours.
At the end of the procedure, an elastic corset or elastic pants is applied to the treated areas.
Hospitalization is about 1 day (depending on volume aspirated, type of anesthesia, general condition).
I, Dr. Bortolini, recommend that during the first days of recovery you rest well, hydrate, meals should be light, small and regular.
Postoperative pain is usually of low intensity. Bruising and swelling (oedema) in the operated areas disappear within two weeks.
In the first days after the operation, analgesic and antibiotic treatment must be followed for 5-7 days.
The elastic corset should be worn for at least 4-6 weeks to promote skin settlement.
Physical exertion and sport should be avoided for at least 1 month and should be resumed progressively.
Massage of the liposuctioned areas can be started immediately after the bruising and swelling have disappeared.
You should come for a check-up every 2-3 days to 2 weeks and then every 3,6,12 months.
The price for a liposuction operation varies according to the complexity of the case and the number of areas to be treated and includes:
