If you too have noticed that your breasts are larger (developed) than they should be, with a feminine shape, find out that there is a solution to this problem, call and schedule an appointment with Dr. Bortolini, a plastic surgery specialist, I can help you get rid of the unsightly appearance that bothers you.
Gynecomastia is the excessive development of the breast and/or the mammary areola in men. It is usually bilateral but can also be unilateral.
Gynecomastia can be an extremely sensitive subject for a man of any age, as well as a special emotional experience. Unlike women, the ideal male chest is considered to be flat and muscular, with minimal fatty and glandular tissue above the pectoral muscle. In practice, very few people (especially athletes) come close to this ideal vision but it can now be easily achieved with modern procedures.
Pathological gynaecomastia occurs due to an imbalance between the amount of oestrogen (female hormone) and testosterone (male hormone) in favour of oestrogen, or through an over-sensitivity of the breast tissue to a normal amount of oestrogen.
Sometimes it is not gynaecomastia (enlargement of the breast through increased breast tissue) but adipomastia (enlargement of the breast through fat). Adipomastia is not medically serious and does not require investigation and treatment is simply liposuction.
During the consultation we will discuss everything about gynecomastia surgery, its risks and limitations and I will answer all your questions. We will take measurements and together we will choose the best option for you.
Your health is evaluated (possible diseases, allergies, usual medications). Afterwards, a breast ultrasound, endocrinological consultation and blood tests are recommended.
Before gynecomastia surgery, it is recommended to avoid the use of anti-inflammatory or aspirin-type drugs (they promote bleeding) for at least 14 days prior to surgery.
Excessive exposure to the sun or the sun should be avoided before surgery.
It is also recommended to stop smoking at least 1 month before the operation or at least to considerably reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day (it hinders the healing process and complications may occur).
On the day of the operation you should not consume food and liquids for at least 6 hours before the operation.
Gynecomastia surgery takes 1-2 hours, requires general anesthesia or intravenous sedation and usually a day of hospitalization.
Depending on how large the mammary gland is, there are several techniques:
Postoperatively there will be bruising and swelling in the operated area. The discomfort and pain will be controlled with pain medication for 5 days.
A dressing is worn for a few weeks to reduce swelling and adjust the skin to the new contour of the chest. Although the results will be visible almost immediately, the swelling will prevent you from assessing the final results. These will be visible in a few weeks after the operation.
Most patients will be able to resume their normal activities in 2-3 days.
Light exercise can be started progressively 2 weeks after the operation,
Massage of the liposuctioned areas can be started as soon as the bruising and swelling have disappeared.
You should come for a check-up every 2-3 days to 2 weeks and then every 3,6,12 months.
The price of gynecomastia surgery varies depending on the complexity of the case
