The brachioplasty surgery is for both women and men who have an excess of skin +/- fat on the arms
After sudden and massive weight loss (post-bariatric), the skin may sag giving the feeling that the arms are still heavy and flabby. Brachioplasty can be performed to remove so-called “bat wings” by removing excess fat and skin from the arm. It is important to note that sometimes the incision (scar) can be hidden at the underarm but if the excess is large, a more extensive procedure is needed and the scar may extend from the underarm to the elbow.
With the integrated beauty concept, BE PERFECT by Dr. Bortolini, breast implant surgery can be combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures: liposuction, breast lift, abdominoplasty or other injectable procedures!
Brachioplasty (arm lift) although it can be a stand-alone operation can often be combined with other operations (abdominoplasty, breast lift, liposuction, etc).
NEW! To get an idea of how you will look after this surgery we will make a computer simulation of the operation.
During the consultation we will discuss everything involved in the operation and I will answer all your questions. We will take measurements, discuss and choose the right treatment for you. Your health will be assessed (possible diseases, allergies, usual medications). Afterwards, blood tests are recommended.
Before the operation it is recommended to avoid anti-inflammatory drugs (nurofen, ketonal) or aspirin (they promote bleeding) at least 14 days before the operation.
Contraceptives should be stopped 4-6 weeks before surgery because they increase the risk of thromboembolic complications (blood clots).
Excessive exposure to the sun or the sun should be avoided before surgery.
It is also recommended to stop smoking at least 1 month before the operation or at least to considerably reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day (it hinders the healing process and complications may occur).
The operation is not performed during the menstrual cycle.
On the day of the operation you must not consume food and liquids for at least 6 hours before the operation.
It is recommended to avoid gel nails or dark colours (because they interfere with the anaesthesia machines) and body creams in the morning.
This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about 2 hours.
TYPES OF BRACHIOPLASTY
1) For patients who have only moderate amounts of excess fat with no excess skin, liposuction is sufficient and the incisions will be punctate.
2) For patients who have only minimal excess skin located near the armpit (armpit), the procedure requires only a limited incision camouflaged in the armpit.
3) If patients present with a lot of excess skin, as is the case with patients who have lost massive amounts of weight, the incision extends from the elbow, along the entire inner side of the arm, to the armpit, and sometimes even to the lateral chest wall.
Hospitalization is on average 1 day.
I, Dr. Bortolini, recommend that during the first days of recovery you rest well, hydrate, meals should be light, small and regular.
Postoperative pain is usually of low-medium intensity. Bruising and swelling (oedema) in the operated areas disappear within two weeks.
In the first days after the operation and an analgesic and antibiotic treatment must be followed for 5-7 days.
The sutures will be re-stitched (if absorbable sutures are used), or removed 14 days postoperatively.
Physical exertion will be avoided completely for the first 2 months, then resumed progressively.
Postoperative scars will be red for the first few months postoperatively, after which they tend to fade (up to 1-2 years postoperatively). Prolonged exposure to sun and sunlight should be avoided for the first 9 months postoperatively. (The final scar does not only depend on the suture, but also on how your body heals).
The elastic corset (sleeves) should be worn for a minimum of 4 – 6 weeks in order to promote skin settlement and a better result.
Check-ups will be at 2-3 days postoperatively until the threads are removed, and then at 3,6,12 months.
The price of an arm lift operation varies according to the complexity of the case and includes everything:
If the surgery is combined with other procedures (e.g. abdomnioplasty, thigh lift, breast lift, etc.) you will receive a discount for the package of procedures adapted to your needs.
