They frequently appear on the lower or upper eyelids as slightly raised, yellowish-white islands. They are soft, painless and have a smooth surface with well-defined edges. Once xanthelasmas appear, they do not disappear by themselves, but rather grow slowly in size. They evolve slowly and are unsightly, invading the surrounding tissues. There is no preventive treatment. If left untreated, xanthelasmas grow to impressive sizes, making surgery difficult. Sometimes they can occur in several members of the same family. About half of people with xanthelasma have high blood fat levels (cholesterol, triglycerides). So I recommend you to have a medical consultation (family doctor, internist, nutritionist) to establish the necessary regimen and treatment. Unfortunately the treatment of xanthelasma (eyelid fat) is only surgical so call and schedule a consultation and I, Dr. Bortolini – plastic surgery specialist can help you to get rid of this unpleasant appearance!
The operation to remove xanthelasmas (fat puffs on the eyelids) takes about 15-30 min. It is performed under local anaesthesia, is painless and does not require hospitalisation. 30 min-1 hour after the operation you can go home and you will come back for bandages in the following days.
The result is even better the sooner you come for treatment when the formation is small (a few millimetres to a centimetre).
1-2 visits are required for follow-up and suture removal is done after 7-10 days.
The removal of xanthelasma can be combined with upper or lower blepharoplasty to treat excess skin on the eyelids or to correct “bags under the eyes“. For more details see also the section “blepharoplasty“.
The price of a xanthelasma removal operation (eyelid fat puff) includes everything:
