Otoplasty recovery

The operation to correct the detached ears, medically called otoplasty, aims to bring the ears closer to the head or make them smaller. It is preferable that ear reshaping surgery is performed in childhood, after the age of 4-5 years, when the ears have reached their definitive size. The operation for decollated ears can also be performed with equal chances of success in adults.Recovery after otoplastyOtoplastysurgery takes about 1 hour and is performed under general anaesthesia or sedation especially in the case of children. Most otoplasties do not require days of hospitalisation.

  • After the operation the ears will be bandaged and they will be changed periodically only by the doctor;
  • the first days after otoplasty surgery should be dedicated to recovery;
  • after 10 days postoperatively, the sutures are removed;
  • at first an elastic bandage (tennis band) should be worn non-stop, then only at night;
  • it is recommended not to sleep on the side;
  • return to school or work a few days after the operation;
  • patients should avoid physical activities that may cause trauma or blows to the ears.
