Recovery after breast implant surgery

Breast augmentation with silicone implants is one of the most requested aesthetic procedures in the world. Even though the operation is easy, many women worry about post-operative care. Although, they shouldn’t.Here are some tips for a quick and easy recovery:

  • For the first few hours after surgery, the patient will remain on bed rest, wearing a special bra;
  • A few hours after the operation the patient should get out of bed gently, take short walks and move her arms carefully;
  • In the first days after the operation, analgesic and antibiotic treatment should be given. It is forbidden to take other medicines without the doctor’s consent;
  • Cold compresses should be applied to avoid swelling of the breasts;
  • Showering is allowed 3/4 days after the operation;
  • Physical exertion and sports should be avoided for 2 months;
  • Wearing a seat belt should be avoided for 2-3 weeks, as should driving a car;
  • For 6 weeks after the operation the patient must wear a special bra;
  • It is recommended to sleep on the back and not on the stomach or side (to avoid displacement of implants and subsequent asymmetries);
  • Respect the doctor’s visits. Check-ups will be at the beginning every 2-3 days and then every 3,6,12 months.
  • If complications occur the patient must present urgently to the clinic.
