Lipofilling

Targets all facial or body areas in need of extra volume, producing safe, long-lasting, natural-looking results. The technique involves the use of own fat to fill an area that needs extra volume. The fat is harvested from other areas, rich in adipose tissue, such as the abdomen, thighs, and is processed and re-injected using very fine special cannulas (like a slightly thicker needle).

Using micro-injection cannulas, fat can be transplanted into the nasolabial folds, dark circles, chin or cheekbones to give the skin a more toned and youthful appearance.

Usually an overfilling of these areas is performed, if the patient agrees, knowing that 30-50% of the transplanted fat will reabsorb within a few months. Another option is to repeat the procedure after 6 months in order to obtain a result as close as possible to the desired one.

The same technique is practiced for other areas of the body such as:

BEFORE FACIAL LIPOFILLING SURGERY

During the consultation we will discuss everything about lipofilling (fat reshaping), what are its risks and limitations and I will answer all your questions. We will take measurements and together we will choose the best option for you.

Your health will be assessed (possible illnesses, allergies, usual medications). Afterwards, an abdominal ultrasound and blood tests are recommended.

Lipofilling

Prior to lipofilling surgery, it is recommended to avoid the use of anti-inflammatory or aspirin-type drugs (they promote bleeding) for at least 14 days before the surgery.

Contraceptives should be stopped 4-6 weeks before surgery because they increase the risk of thromboembolic complications (blood clots).

Excessive exposure to the sun or the sun should be avoided before surgery.

It is also recommended to stop smoking at least 1 month before the operation or at least to considerably reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day (it hinders the healing process and complications may occur).

Lipofilling (transfer of own fat) is not performed during the menstrual cycle.

On the day of the operation you will not eat or drink anything for at least 6 hours before the operation.

It is recommended to avoid gel nails or dark colours because they interfere with the anaesthesia machines* and body creams in the morning.

FACIAL LIPOFILLING SURGERY

Lipofilling

The lipofilling operation (transfer of own fat) is not painful because it is performed with local or general anesthesia (if needed) and lasts about 1 hour.

The incisions (scars)- are usually small (3mm) and hidden from view, at the navel (where the fat is usually harvested), and at the face (where the fat is injected) there are no scars. Initially the fat is removed by liposuction in the areas where it is in excess (abdomen, flanks, thighs, etc.), it is centrifuged, purified and injected using special techniques and cannulas in the face (lipofiling).

AFTER FACIAL LIPOFILLING SURGERY

If it is done under local anaesthesia there is no need for hospitalisation and if it is general anaesthesia hospitalisation is 1 day.

Postoperative pain is usually of low intensity. Bruising (ecchymosis) and swelling (oedema) in the operated areas disappear within two weeks.

In the first days after the operation, analgesic and antibiotic treatment must be followed for 5-7 days.

You should come for a check-up every 2-3 days to 2 weeks and then every 3,6,12 months.
